The Foundation has been founded in 1982 by Manrique and a group of friends and officially opened in March 1992. The Fundacion is located in Tahiche. The museum houses the contemporary collection of the Foundation as well as a collection of contemporary Canarian art.
The Fundaciòn is a private, cultural, non-profit foundation that financially supports itself. Revenues from the sale of tickets from the museum's shop and bookstore are invested in financing artistical, cultural and environmental activities.
The two-story building is built on 5 natural volcanic bubbles. The basement and the unique living spaces are mainly integrated in caves of the volcano bubbles.
The conversion of the main building into a museum was led by Manrique himself, therefore walls and interiors of the old house have been prepared to hold exhibits like paintings and sculptures.
