Teguise, the former capital of the island with 1,625 inhabitants, is now the seat of the government. Teguise was an episcopal city and is now apart from Betancuria on Fuerteventura, the oldest city of the Canaries.
The old town centre of Teguise has been listed under protection for twenty years and has hardly been changed since then.
Pretty houses, monasteries, churches, nice restaurants and cozy places grace the town.
