The Fire Mountains, las Montañas del Fuego, are part of a wide area, which was affected by volcanic eruptions between 1730 - 1736 and in 1824.
This long eruptive process - one of the largest and most spectacular of the historic volcanism on Earth - changed the appearance of the island dramatically.
Almost a quarter of the island was buried under a thick layer of lava and ash.
What’s to see there?
There is a bus tour through the middle of this fascinating landscape of the Fire Mountains (included in the ticket price) with lots of background information in German, Spanish and English language.
A barbecue with natural heat that still works and impressive water fountains that shoot out of the ground as soon as water is poured into it.
